This Privacy Policy explains how BuildWise ("the App", "we", "us") handles information when you use the application. BuildWise is a home-improvement calculator app that performs all calculations on your device. We built it to require as little personal information as possible.
By using BuildWise, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Information We Collect
BuildWise does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide your name, email address, or any other personal identifier to use the App. We do not collect the measurements, dimensions, prices, project names, or any other values you type into a calculator. That data is processed entirely on your device and is never transmitted to us.
The only information we receive is the limited, non-identifying usage and diagnostic data described in the Analytics and Crash Reporting sections below, and payment confirmation from the app store described in In-App Purchases.
Information Stored on Your Device
BuildWise stores the following data locally on your device, using your device's standard local storage. This information is never uploaded to our servers, because we do not operate any servers that store it:
- Favorites — the calculators you have starred.
- History — a list of recently used calculators.
- Saved Estimates — project estimates you choose to save in the Project Cost Estimator.
- Drafts — your in-progress inputs for each calculator, so you don't lose your work if you close the App.
- Settings — your preferences, such as theme, measurement system, currency, and decimal precision.
- Cached Pro entitlement — a local record of whether you've purchased BuildWise Pro, so premium features remain available offline.
- Recent searches — terms you've searched for within the App.
You can clear Favorites, History, and Saved Estimates at any time from Settings. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.
Analytics
BuildWise uses Firebase Analytics, a service provided by Google, to understand anonymous, aggregate usage patterns — for example, which calculators are opened, which Settings are changed, and general app navigation. Analytics events are designed to exclude the measurements, prices, project names, and other values you enter into a calculator, and exclude search text you type.
Firebase Analytics may use device and advertising identifiers as described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can disable Analytics collection at any time from Settings → Privacy → Analytics.
Advertising (AdMob)
In the free version of BuildWise, we display advertisements using Google AdMob. AdMob may collect and use device identifiers and other technical information to serve and measure ads, and — where permitted by your region and consent choices — to personalize the ads you see. Google's use of this data is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and, for users in the EEA/UK, by the consent choices you make through the in-app consent prompt.
BuildWise Pro (see below) removes all advertisements.
In-App Purchases
BuildWise offers a one-time purchase, BuildWise Pro, which unlocks additional calculators and removes ads. Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play Billing (Android) or the Apple App Store (iOS) — BuildWise never receives or stores your payment card details, billing address, or other payment information. We only receive confirmation from the store that a purchase was completed, which we use to unlock Pro features on your device.
Third-Party Services
BuildWise relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics) — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdMob — policies.google.com/privacy
- Google Play Billing / Apple In-App Purchase — governed by Google's and Apple's respective privacy policies.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party.
Data Retention
Because BuildWise does not collect the content you enter into calculators, there is nothing for us to retain beyond the anonymous, aggregate analytics and crash data described above, which is retained according to Google's standard Firebase retention periods. Data stored locally on your device (Favorites, History, Saved Estimates, Drafts, Settings, cached entitlement) remains on your device until you clear it or uninstall the App.
Your Choices
You can, at any time and without needing an account:
- Disable Analytics collection (Settings → Privacy → Analytics)
- Disable Crash Reporting (Settings → Privacy → Crash Reports)
- Clear your Favorites, History, and Saved Estimates (Settings → Data)
- Manage ad personalization consent, where applicable, through the in-app consent prompt or your device's ad settings
- Uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data
Children's Privacy
BuildWise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The App does not require account creation or collect personal identifiers from any user.
Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data associated with BuildWise. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
